My Name is Sarah Douglas I am a 39 year old freelance graphic designer. At the age of 18 I started an apprenticeship in a traditional advertising design studio furnished with drawing boards, stocked with Pantone pens and Letraset and smelling of Spraymount, not a computer in sight. I cut, pasted and trimmed artwork and made enough tea to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool. During this time I was fortunate enough to be trained by some of the most creatively talented people I have ever met.
Some years later Messrs Jobs and Wozniac released the Apple Mac complete with amazing desktop publishing software and design studios changed beyond recogition. Networks of computers, printers and scanners totally revolutionised the process of developing high quality concepts from presentation through to publishing . I think this was my favourite part of my career.
Hobbies & Interests
I don't think there is anyone who wouldn't include music as one of their interests. Like most children from my era I grew up listening to my parents favourite music. Luckily for me my parents's taste in music is wide and varied.
Songs like House of the Rising Sun, Blowing in the Wind, Me and Bobby McGee, Leaving on a Jet Plane and The Streets of London have a special place in my heart. I used to sing these songs with my father while
he played his guitar at the bottom of the garden on sunny afternoons as a child.
It was my love of singing these songs that prompted me and my like-minded friend to form a female vocal harmony duo. With a vast set list spanning from the 1950's to the present day we found we could entertain a mixed crowd for hours with something for just about everyone. It's karaoke glammed up but it's immense fun and we love it!
When I get the opportunity I love to travel. I have family and friends all over the globe and have experienced a variety of different countries and cultures. As well as using this time for reset and relaxation I cannot help but be inspired by the immense natural beauty, history, generosity and hospitality I experience when visiting a different country.
One day I hope to completely immerse myself in a different country and culture and stay long enough to converse in the language, understand the customs and experience a different part of the world from a different perspective.
